Privacy

This describes MacAway and this website as they are built today. When either changes, this page changes with it, and so does the date below.

Last updated 4 October 2026

In short

  • The app collects nothing and sends nothing about you. The only thing it contacts is its own update feed.
  • It asks for one permission: Bluetooth.
  • It never reads, stores or types your password. It locks; you unlock.
  • This website counts page views and clicks. It sets no cookies and saves nothing in your browser.

What the app keeps

Everything MacAway remembers stays on your Mac, in its own settings.

  • The devices you follow. The name macOS already gives each one, and an identifier that means nothing on any other Mac.
  • Your settings. Which mode you chose, any numbers you changed, whether MacAway is paused, and whether it starts at login.
  • When your free days started, and, once you buy, your licence key. The key is checked on your Mac. Checking it needs no internet.
  • The locks from the past week. When each one happened, which device caused it, and why. Older ones are dropped.

MacAway also writes to the log macOS keeps for every app, which is how a problem gets found. That log stays on your Mac too.

None of it goes anywhere. Nothing MacAway keeps about you or your devices is ever sent. When you choose Buy or Send feedback, MacAway opens that page in your browser, the way any link does.

Checking for updates

MacAway asks this website whether a newer version exists, and tells it which version you already have so the answer is right. It sends nothing about you or the devices you follow. The request reaches GitHub’s servers, which keep their own logs including your IP address, exactly as reading this page does.

MacAway asks your permission the first time it runs before checking on its own, and you can change your mind afterwards. Either way you can check whenever you like, from the gear in the menu.

What it asks for

Bluetooth, and nothing else. MacAway uses it to read how strong the signal from your device is, once a second.

It does not ask for your camera, your microphone, your location, your contacts, your files or Accessibility.

This website

This page is a set of static files served by Cloudflare. The typeface comes from this site rather than a font network, so opening this page tells no font company that you were here.

We count how many people open this page, and which buttons and links they click. That is how we learn which parts of the page help and which parts nobody reads. PostHog does the counting for us.

It sets no cookies and saves nothing in your browser. Nothing ties this visit to your next one, and nothing follows you to another website. What it sends is the page you opened, what you clicked and which browser you use. PostHog also sees your IP address, as every website you open does, and works out from it roughly where you are. The web address it sends is cut short before the part that carries your licence key, so the key never goes with it.

Cloudflare keeps its own server logs, including visitors’ IP addresses. Those logs are Cloudflare’s, not ours, and are covered by Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

If you buy MacAway

Stripe sells MacAway, not us. Your card details are theirs and never reach us, and the charge on your statement reads LINK.COM* RB LABS, which is the name Stripe trades under for this.

Stripe then tells us your name, your email address and the billing address you gave them. We read the email address and nothing else, because that is where your licence key goes.

We keep no list of customers. Your key is worked out from the purchase itself every time it is asked for, so there is no record of buyers here to lose or to sell. The email carrying it is sent by Resend, who keep their own record of having sent it.

To have what Stripe holds about your purchase deleted, ask them through Link. They delete it from our account as well.

Who is responsible

MacAway is made by Robert Brada.

The app keeps nothing about you anywhere but on your own Mac, where it is already yours to read and to delete. If you have a question about any of this, write to support@macaway.appsupport@macaway.app
